i started learning the bō a few months back! bought a little garden rake and sanded it, polished it, added the little grips like you do on a camogie stick.

there’s a bō form in the system of karate i study which is helping me to get the basics, but mostly i’ve been focussing on not whacking myself in the head with it and on one-handed spins where you roll the shaft around your palm. plus the footwork and getting the staff to move & anchor for each strike, which feels sometimes like doing trigonometry.

it’s very soothing to just go outside and do figure-8s for a half hour 😌
